Bulldogs answer the call for hand sanitizer
Communities everywhere were feeling the panic. Store shelves were stripped bare. Online orders were backlogged. Hand sanitizer was simply not available. That is, until enterprising and altruistic UGA alumni across the state of Georgia took rectifying the shortage into their own paws!
Georgia Pharmacists with compounding labs quickly mobilized into whipping up batches of hand sanitizer:

- At Forest Heights Pharmacy (2020 Bulldog 100 honoree) in Statesboro, Ben Ross (PHARMD ’08) is making hand sanitizer for the community and donating hand sanitizer to first responders.
- At Chancy Drugs in Valdosta, Hugh Chancy (BSPH ’88) is combating the shortage by making hand sanitizer and selling it at cost.
- At Your Corner Drugstore in Macon, Matthew Frazier (PHARMD ’08) is creating hand sanitizer for sale, allowing for the donation of hand sanitizer to homeless and women’s shelters.
Distilleries had alcohol, and with that, they started to produce hand sanitizer:

- At ASW Distillery (2020 Bulldog 100 honoree) in Atlanta, Jim Chasteen (BBA ’98), Charlie Thompson (AB ’99, JD ’03, MBA ’03), Justin Manglitz (BBA ’04), Chad Ralston (BBA ’08) and Kelly Chasteen (BSED ’00) have launched a Give One/Get One program. For every bottle of hand sanitizer sold, one is donated to a hospital or nonprofit. The business was featured in a June 2019 Terry Magazine profile.
- At Old Fourth Distillery in Atlanta, Craig Moore (BBA ’00) leads a Hand Sanitizer for Heroes program, supplying free hand sanitizer for first responders.
Breweries were not to be left out. They, too, are converting their facilities to bottle up hand sanitizer:

- At Creature Comforts Brewing Company in Athens, David Stein (AB ’06, AB ’06) and Adam Beauchamp (BS ’05, BS ’05) have been able to keep employees working by repurposing part of their equipment to make hand sanitizer. In addition to keeping the staff fully employed, Creature Comforts donated sanitizer to the brewery’s Get Comfortable local nonprofit partners.
- At Pretoria Fields Brewery in Albany, Tripp Morgan (BSPH ’96, PHARMD ’97) and Tony Singletary (BSPH ’94, PHARMD ’95) have pivoted their operations to make hand sanitizer. They are selling some and donating some to first responders.
