Each January, the University of Georgia proudly celebrates its place in history as the birthplace of public higher education in America. A weeklong series of events, including the annual Founders Day Lecture, is held for the Athens and campus communities. The lecture is open to the public – we hope that faculty, staff, students and the local Athens community will join us for this special event. The 2019 speaker will be Dr. Freda Scott Giles, associate professor emerita of theatre and film studies and African-American studies.
UGA sparked a movement that continues to shape our nation–join us as we recognize our historic commitment to public higher education in America.
