2026 Young Alumni Award
Brian E. Harman
As a professional athlete who strives for excellence, Brian Harman (BBA ’11) has long demonstrated his commitment to the University of Georgia, both through his volunteerism and through the work of his foundation.
A Savannah native, Brian arrived at UGA as a standout golfer and quickly made his mark. During his time as a student-athlete, he was a member of the UGA Men’s Golf Team, earning recognition as a three-time Second-Team All-American, a Presidential Scholar, an SEC Honor Roll honoree and a proud member of the Georgia Lettermen’s Club.
Brian turned professional and secured his first victory in 2010 at the Manor Classic on the eGolf Professional Tour. His career continued to flourish. His breakthrough 2023 win at the Open Championship remains a defining moment in his career. He has represented the United States in both the 2023 Ryder Cup and the 2024 Presidents Cup, reached a career‑high world ranking of No. 8 in August 2023, and earned multiple top‑10 finishes during his 2025 season — including a tie for 13th at the TOUR Championship and a tie for 10th at the Open Championship.
Brian was one of several former UGA golf players who came together to endow the UGA Alumni PGA Tour Professionals Georgia Commitment Scholarship, Brian’s first step into philanthropy with UGA. Beyond the golf course, however, Brian is a dedicated conservationist with a deep passion for forestry and natural resources, which opened the door to creating further meaningful opportunities for students. In 2024, he established the Harman Family Forestry Field Course Experiential Learning Scholarship, ensuring that more students can participate in this immersive, high‑impact learning experience.
Through the forestry field course, students gain hands‑on exposure to the industry from time spent at active logging sites to visits at mills of various types, where they observe the full journey from harvesting to processing. These firsthand experiences help students connect classroom knowledge with real‑world application, making the impact of the scholarship especially powerful.
Brian’s commitment to service extends beyond UGA. He founded the Brian Harman Foundation, Inc., which provides financial support to organizations such as the Coastal Coalition for Children and the Frederica Foundation, helping improve the quality of life for individuals and families in need. He and his wife, Kelly Van Slyke Harman, who shares his commitment to philanthropy, are the parents of three children: their daughter, Cooper, and their sons, Walter and Jack.
Across his career and philanthropic work, Brian embodies what it means to be a Bulldog — hardworking, generous and driven to create opportunities for others.
“Brian’s dedication, enthusiasm, and pride in UGA exemplify what it means to be a true Bulldog and a champion for the University’s mission.”
