Dear Latino Alumni Family,

As I conclude my term as president of the Latino Alumni Council, I want to take a moment to reflect with deep gratitude on what we’ve accomplished together over the past year.

Serving in this role has been such a rewarding experience. Together, we’ve made meaningful strides in supporting our Latino community at UGA. From raising over $7,140.00 for our Latino Alumni Scholarship Fund this fiscal year, to championing our Latino student organizations on campus, and collecting generous donations for LaAmistad during our festive Ugly Sweater event – each milestone has been a testament to the power of unity, purpose, and heart.

I am especially thankful to my incredible executive board and our dedicated alumni members. Your willingness to give your time, energy, and passion—often freely and without hesitation—has been the backbone of our success. Your commitment inspires me every day.

Though my term is ending, my excitement for the future of the Latino Alumni Council is only growing. I look forward to witnessing the continued growth of this vibrant community and discovering new ways we can uplift and empower Latino students at UGA. I know that our new executive board will continue to find ways to excel!

Thank you for trusting me with this opportunity. It has been an honor to serve UGA and our students, and I will always remain a proud and active member of this familia.

With gratitude and cariño,

Deborah Velazquez (BBA ’13)

Immediate Past President, Latino Alumni Council
