You are cordially invited! The UGA Black Alumni Homecoming Tailgate returns to Myers Quad on Saturday, October 15.
During the pandemic, I read an article by Charanna Alexander in the New York Times that described why homecoming is vital to our college experience.
“Under those tents . . . generations communicate the struggles and joys of life in and out of college. There, in deep and rich communion, dancing to music across decades, people shake off the never-ending hostilities and microaggressions that commingle with the daily demands of adulthood. These are gatherings that could only be described as part family reunion and part revival.”
I feel the same sense of pride, family, revival, and connection when Black students and alumni return to the University of Georgia during Homecoming week. We gather in the Myers Quad to honor the legacy of our 1961 trailblazers, reconnect with friends and classmates, and affirm our value and commitment to making the university a more inclusive place for all. Homecoming is a special time when we come together to cheer on the Dawgs with the family we choose!
We are excited to celebrate homecoming with you on October 15 at the UGA Black Alumni Homecoming Tailgate. Can’t make it to Myers Quad? Show your pride by attending a chapter game-watching party in your city! Thank you to everyone who supported the Black Alumni Scholarship Fund by purchasing a homecoming box and/or T-shirt.
