History of the Ring

When the University of Georgia was chartered in 1785, it began a tradition of pride and loyalty that continues to this day. To remind students, past and present, of their achievements and memories while on campus, and the traditions of their alma mater, the UGA Alumni Association is proud to offer the University of Georgia Ring.

Over the years

In 1923, juniors and seniors at the University of Georgia adopted the official “Senior-Alumni Ring” to be worn by all future University of Georgia graduates. Wearers of this ring were highly honored, in that, no one except a senior in good standing, or an alumnus, was permitted to wear one.

In 2005, students, administrators, and alumni partnered with Balfour to redesign the ring, resulting in the current ring selections. These rings proudly hold many of the elements of the original ring, particularly the Arch.

And now, $85 of each ring purchased will go to the Young Alumni Leadership Council Finish the Drill Scholarship Fund which provides scholarship support for undergraduate students with 60+ credit hours who face financial challenges in their final years. It’s more than a safety net – it’s a bridge to the finish line. Each award helps lift the burden of tuition, allowing students to stay enrolled, stay focused, and earn their degree.

Much like the university, these rings are more than what they appear on the surface. They are more than a circle made of precious metal; they symbolize a bond that can never be broken. They represent the bond between the University of Georgia and its graduates, as well as between all those who wear them.

A TRADITION THAT IS EARNED

The UGA Ring has long been a tradition for those who know the honor and commitment of being a Georgia Bulldog. To purchase a UGA Ring, one must complete 60+ credit hours or be a graduate of the university.

GETTING YOUR RING SIZE

Whether or not the UGA Ring is your first jewelry purchase, we strongly recommend that you get sized before purchasing your ring. Throughout the semester, the Student Alumni Council and Balfour offer opportunities to stop by a campus location and get sized. In addition, students can view the rings any time by visiting the UGA Bookstore.

Hosted by the Student Alumni Council, Ring Days are an opportunity to connect with current students to talk about the UGA Ring and get your size. You might even get a special prize for stopping by.

  • Spring dates coming soon!

Several days a semester, Balfour representatives will be on campus to assist with ring sizing and ordering. We suggest contacting a representative to help talk through the order process. Visits are scheduled from 10 AM to 3 PM.

RING CEREMONY

The UGA Ring Ceremony is a tradition like no other. Join friends and family for an evening of ceremony and celebration at the UGA Chapel and on North Campus. This event is reserved for students and alumni that have purchased a UGA Ring.

UGA Rings are custom made during select production cycles. Due to the high value of these products and their significance to the Bulldog experience, ring purchases are defaulted to be delivered to campus in April.
