Biography

As a scientist, entrepreneur and mentor, Nettie is committed to using innovation to improve lives while creating opportunities for others to succeed. After earning a degree in biochemical engineering from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Georgia Tech and Emory University, she built a career focused on translating scientific discoveries into technologies that address real-world health challenges.

Today, she serves as co-founder and CEO of Renal Signal, a medical device startup developing technology for the earlier detection of acute kidney injury. Through her work, she collaborates with physicians, researchers and health care leaders to improve patient outcomes and advance biomedical innovation.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, she is passionate about mentorship and STEM access. Through research mentoring, outreach initiatives and her platform, NettieBsScienceTea, she helps students explore careers in science and engineering. A dedicated UGA alumna, she continues to mentor engineering students through the UGA National Society for Black Engineers, speak on campus and support programs that inspire future innovators to see themselves in STEM careers.
