FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What needs to happen for me to get a UGA license plate on my car in Tennessee?
In order for a UGA specialty license plate to be produced in Tennessee, 1,000 plates needed to be preordered—and this has occurred!
The UGA Alumni team is now working with the State of Tennessee to verify each preorder. Once that becomes official with the state, the state will begin production of the license plate for those who have preordered the plate.
It will take approximately 4-6 months for the plates to be produced and mailed to local County Clerk offices across the state. The Tennessee Department of Revenue will notify those who have preordered a plate when the plates have shipped to their local County Clerk’s office so the purchase can be completed there.
Once the license plate becomes available to the public, you will find more information on how to purchase yours through the Tennessee Department of Revenue’s website.
What if I move before the plates become available?
If you preordered a plate and have since moved out of the state, please contact your local County Clerk’s office to discuss next steps.
Can I secure a UGA license plate for my motorcycle or RV? Can my handicap tag have the UGA design?
This design is not available for handicap, motorcycle, or RV license plates.
I have a question about this campaign. Who do I contact?

Does UGA benefit from the sale of specialty license plates in Tennessee?
Per state law, Tennessee does not provide any financial compensation to the university when offering UGA specialty license plates. But having thousands of drivers with UGA license plates is great for branding the university in the Volunteer State—and we love that! Go Dawgs!
